Fort Kent--- Gertrude C. Albert, 88, peacefully entered into rest and into the waiting arms of the Lord April 27, 2025. She was born on October 7, 1936 in Fort Kent, a daughter of the late Dr. Joseph L. and Violet (Harvey) Albert.
Following her high school education at a Catholic school in New Hampshire, Gertrude entered the convent, Presentation of Mary, based in Methuen, MA, obtained her teaching education and taught school in Biddeford, ME, for several years. She obtained her nursing degree from Quinnipiac University, CT, and worked several years in Meridan, CT. Gertrude left religious life in 1969 to return to her hometown of Fort Kent to care for her aging mother for several years. Following her mother's passing, Gertrude loved teaching and returned to Fort Kent's former Market Street School to teach hundreds of pupils during her 22 years of teaching second grade. Gertrude was always devoted to her church and was a longtime choir member of St. Louis Church. Following her retirement, she learned and practiced therapeutic Reiki, and helped many of her friends with their pain and faith. She also enjoyed many years at her family's camp on Cross Lake, which she had purchased after her retirement.
She is survived by four siblings, Catherine (Phil) Pelletier of Fort Kent, Father James Albert of Fort Kent, Peter (Ann) Albert of Presque Isle, and Lucille Dube of Rockland; many nieces, nephews and cousins, especially her helpful, supportive niece and nephew, Jane and Charles.
Besides her parents, Gertrude was predeceased by six siblings, Dr. Rodrigue Albert, Maurice Albert, Camille Albert, Jacqueline Martin, Muriel Moreau, and Robert Albert, and a special friend and the family's former nanny, Victoire "Vic" St. Germain.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday, May 5, 2025 at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. Relatives and friends may greet the family Monday morning 9 – 9:45 AM at the church. Spring interment will be in St. Louis Cemetery. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home, 14 E.
