Obituary

Madawaska---Gertrude B. Beaulieu, 95, passed away at a Madawaska health care facility on September 24, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Grand Isle on December 5, 1914, the daughter of Jean and Marie (Martin) Beaupre. Before settling in Madawaska, Gertrude and her husband resided in various states due to traveling for her husbands work. She was a strong hard worker who worked hard to raise her children while building their home at the same time. After raising her children, she went back to school to get her G.E.D. She also took her drivers test at the age of forty five years. She worked at the high school cafeteria for many years until becoming manager and head cook. In her later years, Gertrude and her husband spent several winters in Florida. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Daughters of Isabella, and the Ladies of St. Anne. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, knitting, and gardening. She was known throughout the neighborhood for her flower garden and her homemade root beer. Gertrude is survived by one daughter, Jeanne Chartier of Bristol, CT; four sons, Ronald and his wife Georgette of Presque-Isle, Roger and his wife Donna of American Forks, UT, Ray and his wife Ida of Madawaska, and Robert and his wife Verna of Grand Isle; thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren; one sister, Anne Chasse of Grand Isle; two brothers, Clarence Beaupre and his wife Agathe, and Roger Beaupre all of Connecticut; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Martin Beaulieu on February 2, 2008; two sisters, Bertha and Dela; five brothers, Gilbert, Addis, Bernie, Emilien, Guy. A Funeral Service will be held 10am on Tuesday, September 28 at the St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Family and friends may visit at Lajoie Funeral Home from 6-8pm on Monday and from 9am until time of service on Tuesday. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
