IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gilbert "Gil"
Dubois
August 15, 1926 – June 5, 2021
Fort Kent--- Gilbert ("Gil") Dubois peacefully passed away on June 5 th , 2021 at the age of 94. Gil was born in Fort Kent, ME to Phydime and Laura Dubois. At the age of 17, Gilbert enlisted in the US Navy and served his country proudly during World War II from 1944 - 1945. After the war, Gil returned home to Fort Kent and married Claire Picard and they had three daughters. He began his career with Etscovitz Chevrolet as parts manager. He later accepted a position as Manager of Sears Roebuck where he began a long sales career. His children often joked that they had to turn on the lights before sitting down in case Dad sold the couch. In 1980, Claire fell ill and Gil moved his family to New Hampshire to be closer to the Boston medical facilities. Subsequent to her passing, Gil moved back to Fort Kent. In 1986, Gil married Nathalie Charette and the two enjoyed spending their summers at their camp on Eagle Lake. Gilbert was involved in many community organizations including the Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus, the volunteer fire department, the American Legion, the Fort Kent Chamber of Commerce, Historical Society, and Lonesome Pine Ski Trail. If that was not enough, Gil and Nath alie spent several years of their retirement working for People's Heritage Property Management. Both Gil and Nathalie's work ethic is something that has long been admired by their family as even the grandchildren had trouble keeping up. Gil is survived by his wife Nathalie, two daughters Norma Brogan and Jane Swett, step children Cheryl Guimond and Dale Charette. He is predeceased by his first wife Claire, his daughter Helene Michaud, and 10 siblings. He has 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Gil's family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the Northern Maine Medical Center's Med/Surg and Swing Units for their compassionate care while Gil was in the hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gilbert's name to the Fort Kent Lion's Club Project Committee, P.O Box 28 Fort Kent, ME 04743; or the Northern Maine Medical Center Building Fund 194 E. Main St. Fort Kent, ME 04743. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11am on Friday June 11, 2021 at the St. Louis Church. Family and friends may call at Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home from 8:30am until 10:30am on Friday before the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home.
