Obituary

Fort Kent---Herman Desjardins, 82, passed away on August 21, 2024, at his home in Fort Kent, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Wallagrass on August 26, 1941, son of the late Thomas and Georgianna (Bouchard) Desjardins.

Herman was a faithful husband of 62 years who enjoyed helping his wife, Doretta, on her family's farm.  Their marriage was the beginning of a love story that evolved into a family legacy where the people he adored were central to every event, whether it was a hunting trip, fishing derby, or holiday at the lake.  For 27 years Herman was a loyal and highly respected employee of Fraser Paper where he retired as machine shop supervisor.  He was recognized at work and in his community as an accomplished mechanic and excellent carpenter.  He was happiest; however, when collaborating with sons and daughters on projects with all the grandchildren playing nearby, or when at the head of the table with everyone sitting down to a feast.  Near the end of his life when Herman was unable to hold his favorite hammer to build things for family, he used his hands to hold his great grandchildren and his heart to hold those still on the way.  Herman Desjardins has gone on ahead of his beloved family taking part of each member with him while also leaving something of himself behind in all.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty two years, Doretta (Plourde) Desjardins of Fort Kent; five children, Lisa Rutt and her husband Norman of East Waterboro, Linda Soucy and her husband Dale of Fort Kent, Thomas Desjardins and his wife Anni of Woodland, Donna Desjardins and her partner Kim of Dresdon, Timothy Desjardins and his wife Roxanne of Fort Kent; twenty one grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; three siblings, Robert Desjardins and his wife Betty Jane of Fort Kent, Herbert Desjardins and his wife Ghislaine of Fort Kent, Christy Plourde of Fort Kent; many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by one daughter, Tina Marie Desjardins; one grandchild, Lauren Eva Soucy; four siblings, Betty Bernier, Wallace Desjardins, Thomas Desjardins, Wanna Sioch.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am on Friday, August 30, 2024, at the St. Louis Church.  There will be no visiting hours.  Interment will be at the Parish cemetery immediately following the Mass on Friday.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home.
