Grand Isle - Herman E. Roy, 85, died on Monday, November 14, 2011 at a Van Buren Nursing Home. He was born on March 12, 1926, in Millinocket, the son of Eddie and Gertie (Vaillancourt) Roy. Herman worked for 36 years as a Vice President, and one of the original founders of the Grand Isle Federal Credit Union. In addition, he worked for the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad as a station agent for 46 years, and served as the Grand Isle Town Treasurer for 33 years. He retired in 1988. Herman served in the US Army from 1944-1946 during WWII in the Field Artillery Battalion, which was deployed to the European Theater. Herman is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Leona (Kit) Albert, his children, Herman Roy Jr., and his wife Joyce of Grand Isle, Linda Dionne and her husband James of Walpole, MA, Paul Roy and his wife Carmen of Kennebunk. . In addition, he is survived by 9 grandchildren, Michelle, Monique and Keith Roy, Alyssa Johnson, and Kristen Piscatelli of MA, Greg, Stacy, Matthew and Kaitlyn. Siblings: Hercules Roy and his wife Maureen of Fort Kent, Rene Mimes of Chatsworth, CA, Pauline Bourgoine and her husband Berthier of Madawaska and Jeanine Corriveau of Frenchville, great grandchildren Brandon, Martina, Kayla, and a daughter in law, Dot Roy. Herman was predeceased by a son, Danny, and sisters Dora Wellington of St. Agatha, and Joan Guerrette of New Britain, CT. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2011 at St. Gerard Church in Grand Isle. Friends and family may offer their condolences from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, at Lajoie Funeral Home in Madawaska. Interment will be at a later date at the Grand Isle Cemetery.
