Madawaska--- Hilda D. Cyr, 97, peacefully entered into Eternal Life and into the waiting arms of her beloved late husband on August 28, 2024, at a Madawaska healthcare facility. She was born September 30, 1926, in Edmundston, NB, Canada, a daughter of the late Adelard and Delina (Beaulieu) Albert.
Hilda worked as a secretary with Daigle Oil for over 30 years, until her retirement in 1988. Even after retirement, she adored being able to babysit her grandchildren. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas Church where she also loved singing with the church choir, was a Eucharistic Minister for many years, and assisted in the former funeral buffets. Hilda was also a constant volunteer at Madawaska's nursing homes, where she would assist or entertain the residents. Hilda was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and a member of the former Lioness Club. Hilda was an avid knitter and loved to sing and dance.
She is survived by three children, Pauline Cyr and her husband Mike of Connecticut, Pierre Cyr and his wife Kathi of Massachusetts, Lynn Wetmore and her husband James of Madawaska; eight grandchildren, Jeff, Natalie, Matthew, Kami, Ashley, Allison, Dylan, and Ethan; seven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Hilda was predeceased by her beloved husband of 53 years, Zoel Cyr in 2002, two children, Louise Gilbert and Charles Cyr, and two sisters, Anita Jaenisch and Sylva Jessome.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Madawaska. Relatives and friends may greet the family Thursday morning 8:30 – 9:30 at Lajoie Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 114-10th Ave., Madawaska. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Hilda's name may be made to Ridgewood Estates Activity Fund, 480 Ridgewood Ave., Madawaska, ME 04756 or Alzheimer's Association- Maine Chapter, 383 US-1 #2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
