Allagash--- Howard R. Baker, 79, peacefully entered into rest August 19, 2026, at a Madawaska healthcare facility, with his loving family at his side. He was born on July 12, 1947, in Marion, Ohio, to Howard S. Baker and G. Lucille (MacIntire) Baker.

He leaves behind his wife, Barbara Baker; his children, Regina Baker and Vernon Baker; his stepchildren, Merrell Raymond and Marcus Raymond; his sister, Janet Gracely and husband Bob; one granddaughter, who was the apple of Howard’s eye, Sophia Baker; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Barbara Lewis and Linda Klehm; and his brother, Vernon Baker.

Howard did not have an easy life, but he made the most of every moment. He was a man who bounced back from many challenges, including several near-death experiences. The experiences only demonstrated his resiliency. He was driven to make the most of his life, no matter what circumstances threw at him. He maintained a twinkle in his eyes and a quick whit when it came to teasing others and joking around. His stories and his desire to teach others what he knew were always activated.

He worked hard throughout his life and was an entrepreneur even as a young child doing various jobs to earn his way: mowing lawns, collecting newspapers and recycling for money, anything he could find to earn his way. That stayed with him his whole life; if he worked for you, he gave 100% to the job, and he never slacked off. At age 17 he joined the Navy and during his four years of service he had a few near-death experiences. After the service he did several different jobs. He did some carpentry, helped people move, was a cross-country trucker, and welded at General Dynamics in RI. In his later years he pursued a passion of his as a Finish Carpenter in Northern Maine, where he resided for the past 40 years with his wife of 40 years.

Howard was always alert to what was going on around him and if he saw someone in need and he was able to help he would. His heart was sold out for Jesus, and he was always inviting people to come out to church. He cared about people’s souls and wanted them to share in what he had come to understand. Jesus had died for him and cleansed him from sin, he was forgiven, and he had been born again as Christ speaks of in John 3:3, also he was assured of eternal life as he continued to walk with the Lord, which he has done. He was a very active member of the Agape Christian Fellowship for the past 15 years and served with all his heart. His love for his children was very steadfast and constant in the good times and bad times; he wanted to be there in whatever capacity he could.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Agape Christian Fellowship, 178 N. Perley Brook Rd., Fort Kent. Interment will be at 12:30 at the Allagash Municipal Cemetery.
