Obituary

Fort Kent—Hubert "Bert" C. Perreault, age 84, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2022 surrounded by his loving family while he resided at Forest Hill Manor in Fort Kent. Bert was born on December 24, 1934, in Eagle Lake to the late Roland and Lillian (Bouchard) Perreault. He is survived by 3 of his 4 children whom he and his wife considered their greatest accomplishments in life; Kent (Jenny) of New Canada, Dean (Amy) of Fort Kent, and Patti (John) Voisine of St. Francis; 5 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren.

After his mother's untimely passing, Bert, at the age of 10, eased his grief by finding jobs with his pony hauling firewood, water, garbage, and even transported newly married couples to and from their religious ceremonies. He put his whole heart in the odd jobs he did until he saw there was more money to be made in the woods. Therefore, Bert's formal education was in the forests of Northern Maine and his respected teachers were the lumbermen and camp cooks taught him to value a hard day's work, to respect his coworkers and to always be humble and kind.

As years passes, Bert, (Perreault Logging, Inc.) became well known for being self-employed and a dependable crane operator. He contracted under companies such as his father, Roland Perreault; his father in-law, Patrick Nadeau; Levesque Lumber, International Paper Co., Great Northern Paper Co, Tom Pinkham, and J. D Irving. His most treasured years in business were when he worked side-by-side with his sons, Kent and Dean, where he taught them not only his trade, but he also welded together an unbreakable bond between father and sons.

After retirement, Bert enjoyed restoring old cars with his son, Bob, helping his daughter, Patti and sons, Kent and Dean; enjoying time with his grandchildren, and spending treasured time with the love of his life, Gene. Together, Gene and Bert made a love story envied by many. However, in October 2004 Bert and Gene's lives were shattered with the loss of their youngest son, Bob. And in 2020, Bert had to endure the devasting loss of his beloved wife. Not being able to cope with her loss, Bert suffered from a massive stroke only a few months after her passing. The doctors diagnosed it as a "broken heart" stroke. Hence, he went to reside at Forest Hill Manor where he was so well taken care of by all staff and departments.

Bert is also survived by his 2 step-brothers, Ricky (Marcy) Perreault, Donnie (Evalynne) Perreault; a very special niece, Vicky Boucher; brother in-laws, Ron (Lauraine) Nadeau, Vernal (Pauline) Nadeau; a special aunt, Mary Lee Ware; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Roland and Lillian Perreault; step-mother, Bedette Perreault; brother, Gerald; sister, and brother in-law, Linda and Gary Pelletier; step-sister, Ann (Bert) Levesque; his youngest son Bob; his loving wife, Gene. In the past 15 months Bert longed to be reunited with his wife and son, and today he was greeted by our savior with open arms and his loved ones, "Welcome my faithful servant."

The family would like to thank Forest Hill for taking such good care of our father. He was loved. He was respected. He so admired the hard work of healthcare during this trying time. We would also like to thank his daughter in-law, Amy, for the devoted love and care she gave our Dad. We treasure each and every one of you… you were all angels in our father's life.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, April 4, 2022, 10am at St. Charles in St. Francis; joined by the 4 th degree Knights of Columbus. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. John Vianney Parish or Forest Hill Bingo Fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home
