Van Buren--- Irene M. Berube, 93, died peacefully Friday, August 26, 2016, at Maine Veterans Home, Caribou. She was born March 18, 1923 in Van Buren, a daughter of the late Joseph and Marie (Roy) Page.
Irene was a long time parishioner of St. Bruno-St. Remi Church, Van Buren and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post #49. She loved to knit and sew and share her crafting with her children and grandchildren. She was also an avid animal lover.
She is survived by: three children, Barbara Sambataro of New Berlin, WI, Joseph Rodney Berube and his wife Claire of Cobleskill, NY, and Daniel Berube and his wife Norma of Madawaska; three sisters, Mildred Levasseur of New Jersey, Shirley Seals of Florida, and Joyce McClay of Bangor; six grandchildren, Jeff, Andrew, Christopher, Jonathan, Julie & Mike Berube; many great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Irene is predeceased by her husband of over 60 years, Lionel J. Berube in 2011, three brothers and six sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Van Buren. Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family Monday 6-8 PM and Tuesday morning 8:30-9:30 AM at Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. Burial will be private in the parish cemetery.
