Van Buren--- Irene M. Corriveau peacefully entered into rest March 7, 2020, two days after celebrating her 97 th birthday. She was born March 5, 1923 in Van Buren, a daughter of the late John and Gertrude (Jacques) Charette.
Irene was a lifelong parishioner of St. Bruno-St. Remi Church, a life member of the Columbiettes and American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a long time volunteer for Van Buren's Acadian Village, L'Heritage Vivant/Living Heritage. She last worked several years with the former Grant's Store, before her retirement. Previously she worked many years in her brother's jewelry store, AJ Charette Jewelers.
She is survived by: three sons, Allan Corriveau of Augusta, Steven Corriveau and his wife Brenda of Van Buren, and Carl Corriveau of Caribou; three daughters, Constance Gerard and her husband Blaine of Manchester, CT, Jean Corriveau of Pennsburg, PA, and Maxine St. Pierre and her husband Leo of Grand Falls, NB, Canada; two brothers, Gerald Charette of Florida and Patrick Charette of Connecticut ; one sister, Miriam Charette of Brunswick; four grandchildren, Melissa, Adam, Keith & Stephanie; two great grandchildren, Logan & Alexa; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Irene was predeceased by her beloved husband of almost 55 years, Lionel J. Corriveau, four sisters, Germaine Dubay, Antoinette Fontaine, Rosemarie Forsman, and Constance Glennon, and three brothers, Albert Charette, Henry James Charette, and Edward Charette.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday, March 12, 2020, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Main St., Van Buren. Relatives and friends may greet the family Thursday morning, 9-9:45 AM at the church. Spring interment will be in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Irene's name may be made to: Parish Needs Fund, c/o Knights of Columbus, 284 Main St., Van Buren, ME 04785. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren, ME 04785.
