IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Irma J.
Pelletier
March 24, 1928 – August 16, 2025
Irma J. (Daigle) Pelletier, 97, passed away peacefully in Fort Kent, Maine on August 16, 2025. She was born in Daigle, ME on March 24, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Denis L, and Jeanne (Chatagnon) Daigle. Irma was the youngest of a blended family of ten siblings raised on the family homestead in Daigle. Irma with Renaud, her devoted husband of 75 years, raised their family in this same community. She is survived by her ten children, Gloria Pelletier of Fort Kent, Sharon Ouellette of Fort Fairfield, Peter Pelletier of Belgrade, Robert Pelletier of North Berwick, Thomas Pelletier of Winston-Salem NC, Debra Jett of Mesa, AZ, Ray Pelletier of Madawaska, Jay Pelletier of Augusta, Dennis Pelletier of Madawaska, and Jennifer Bannen of Fort Kent; 22 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.
Irma earned her bachelor's degree in teaching and took great pride as an educator. She began her career at the LaFayette School, a one-room schoolhouse at "La Poche D'our". Later she was hired to teach at the elementary level, mostly in the unorganized territories for the State of Maine. She also worked with adults to prepare them for their high school equivalency exam. In addition to her teaching career, she was dedicated to running the family farming business alongside her husband Renaud. She was instrumental in the successful operation of the farm with her sharp bookkeeping, optimism and heartfelt meals in her home and, as was often the case during harvest, out in the fields. She eventually retired from teaching and farming with her husband in 1989.
In the 1950's and 1960's Irma was a member of the Farm Bureau and the VFW. In addition, she was dedicated to the of Holy Family Church in Daigle where she was a Lecturer and Eucharistic minister until its closure, and then a parishioner of St. John Vianney Parish. She was awarded Mother of the year in 2019 by the Ladies of St. Anne of whom she was a lifelong member. She dedicated her time to the community. She worked as a volunteer for the non-profit Good Shepherd Thrift Shop and was very active in helping to organize and prepare food for benefits held at the New Canada Community Center. Irma also helped start and oversee their physical fitness program for older adults.
Irma's many hobbies included gardening, sewing, knitting and crocheting, camping with the family, playing cards and the occasional jaunt to the casino. She had a strong interest in genealogy. She was proud of her paternal French Acadian roots as well as her maternal decedents, Les Chatagons de Cellieu, France. She also enjoyed traveling with Renaud throughout the U.S. and Canada by car and motorcycle.
Irma had a very busy and rewarding life. She was always a role model of strength and courage for her family. The love of and devotion to family that she instilled in her children now passes down to the next generations. Her faith in God was unwavering, as was her profound love for Renaud and her family. Irma's guidance and love will be missed.
