Obituary

Van Buren, ME--- Joseph Lawrence "Larry" Bouchard, 86, of Van Buren, ME, loving husband of Marie "Louise" (Cyr) Bouchard for 61 years, passed away July 6, 2014, after a long struggle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). He was born November 15, 1927 in Grand Isle, ME, a son of the late Damase and Hedwidge (Ouellette) Bouchard. Larry was a proud Korean War Veteran and a long-time member of the VFW and American Legion. He was employed by Pratt &Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford, CT, retiring in 1989 after 37 years in the Research and Development Department. Though he raised his family in Connecticut, his heart was always in northern Maine and he relocated to Van Buren in 2002. A master woodworker, he kept his hands busy crafting beautiful furniture for his family with much love and care. To summarize his life in a few short paragraphs would never do service to the man he was: devoted to his family, a favored uncle to many nieces and nephews, loyal to his friends, proud of his country, generous with his vast knowledge and talents, and caring and cared for beyond measure only sums a few of his many virtues. He is survived by: his wife of Van Buren, ME; two daughters, Elaine Spieker and her husband Gary of Vernon, CT and Jane Coke and her husband Dr. John of Bangor, ME; two sisters, Laurette Gendreau of East Hartford and Marcella Madore and her husband Eugene of Coventry, CT; six grandchildren, Nate, Josh and Katrina Spieker and Matt, Chris and Dan Coke; a great grandson, Aiden Spieker; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Larry is predeceased by an infant daughter, Joyce Bouchard, five sisters, Essie Madore, Irene Gagnon, Cecile Lajoie, Regina Violette, Therese Dumont, and five brothers, Ernie, Louis, Reginald, Rosaire and Ronald Bouchard. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Friday, July 11, 2014, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, 174 Main St., Van Buren, ME. Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family Friday morning, 9:3010:45AM at the church. Burial will be in Hebron, CT at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren, ME 04785. In lieu of flowers, donations in Larry's name may be made to: Hospice of Aroostook, PO Box 688, Caribou, ME 04732 or Maine Parkinson Society, 359 Perry Rd., Bangor, ME 04401.
