Van Buren--- Jacqueline C. Derosier, 79, peacefully embarked on the final leg of her journey Friday, July 24, 2020, at Aroostook House Of Comfort, Presque Isle, with her family at her side. She was born April 15, 1941 in Van Buren, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mathilda (Parent) Derosier. Jackie graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Van Buren and went on to graduate from Fort Kent Teachers College in 1962.
Jackie was a beloved Physical Education teacher at Van Buren schools, until her retirement 1996. During her 30-year tenure, she was the coach for the ladies' basketball, softball, and field hockey teams. She led the Van Buren women's basketball team to their first and only State Championships in 1977, an accomplishment she was very proud of.
She was a skillful gardener and her customers benefitted greatly from her knowledge and expertise. She maintained her gardening business for many years, hired to oversee beautification projects throughout Van Buren, Caribou, and other area communities.
Jackie's love of nature brought her to live at the Van Buren Cove on Long Lake as a year-round resident for 40+ years. She loved to explore the woods, tend to her gardens, and enjoy the beauty around her as the seasons changed.
She truly enjoyed visiting her extended family and friends and she touched the hearts and lives of those around her. She never hesitated to assist anyone during their time of need and was a true mentor, coach, and friend to those who knew her.
Jackie is survived by: three siblings, Joan Daigle and her husband Richard of Windham, Claudette Parent and her husband A. Wilfred "Bill" of Maryland, and Barbara Berube and her husband Daniel of Gorham; sister-in-law, Sylvia Derosier; many nieces, nephews (including great and great-great); cousins and extended family. She will be greatly missed by several family members and friends including Bab, Fran and Winsome.
