Obituary

Hamlin --- Jacqueline M. (Bonenfant) Durette, 80, of Hamlin, ME, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 14, 1946, in Drummond, New Brunswick, Canada, a beloved daughter of Edmond and Irene (Lagace) Bonenfant.

Jackie was raised alongside her four brothers and five sisters by their loving parents. At a young age, she helped care for her siblings while her parents worked hard to provide for their large family. Early in life she learned a strong work ethic and passed down that trait to her daughters.

Jackie lived in Canada for 23 years until she met the love of her life, Alphy J. Durette, at a dance hall in Van Buren, ME. They dated for a short while and were soon married on November 28, 1969. Together, they built a home in Hamlin, ME and raised three beautiful daughters, Cindy, Michelle, and Danielle.

Jackie was not only a homemaker but also loved working the potato harvest for different farmers in the area for many years, as well as being a housekeeper for a time, taking great pride in her work, but the most fulfilling job she had was being the lifelong caregiver for her oldest daughter Cindy.

In her spare time, Jackie was a dedicated member of the American Legion Post 49 Ladies Auxiliary. She at one time held the position of Historian and volunteered at the monthly supper meetings. Jackie not only worked the Ladies Auxiliary Bingo but loved to play it as well. She spent many nights attending Bingo games both in town and throughout the surrounding communities. Jackie also enjoyed spending time riding her ATV with her family and friends but was happiest playing hostess to her children, grandchildren, siblings and many nieces and nephews. Whether it was birthdays, holidays, late night card games, playing Tock, or having cookouts and pool parties, Jackie loved her time spent with extended family and friends. She also loved watching her daughter and grandchildren play in their soccer, basketball, and softball games and would travel all over the county to attend. She was especially proud to see them play in regional and state championships.

Jackie is survived by her beloved husband of over 56 years, Alphy Durette of Hamlin; three daughters, Cindy Durette of Hamlin, Michelle Parent and her husband Nicholas of Hamlin, Danielle Elie of Raymond; five grandchildren, Kayla, Dylan and his fiancé Hannah, Danika, Peter, and Emma; and six great children, Eden, Ivar, Lucien, Hazel, Brooks, and Juniper. She is also survived by her sisters, Yolande, Linda and her partner Roger, Alma and her husband Bob; her brothers, Damien and his wife Gisele, Jace and his wife Line; and many special nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Jacqueline was predeceased by two brothers, Enoil and Roger, and two sisters Marie Madeleine and Anne.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 10:30 am at St. Joseph’s Church in Hamlin, ME. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday morning from 8:30 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jackie’s name to the Van Buren District School Soccer Dugout Fundraiser, “VBDS MSAD #24”, 169 Main St., Van Buren, ME 04785.
