Wallagrass---James Nelson Corriveau, born November 27,1936, died peacefully at St Joseph Nursing Home in Frenchville on April 18, 2026. James was the son of Antoine and Irene Pinette Corriveau of Fort Kent Maine. James worked at Robichaud Brothers Farm, and Pinkham’s in Allagash in his early years. In 1957, he drove truck for Carol Whaltz while working for the State Highway Department. James spent 26 years working for the highway department, maintaining the roads from Fort Kent to Plaisted to Soucy Hill. He later purchased his own truck and continued to maintain roads for the State’s highway department. He retired as a state employee in 1981 to start his construction company, Corriveau Construction. During his life, James was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time at his camp with his family. He was a handyman who loved building things. He built three barns, the family camp, and remodeled his home many times. James also enjoyed caring for his farm animals and his large garden with his wife. James was also a third-degree member of the Fort Kent Knights of Columbus. James is predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Blanche Albert Corriveau. Together they raised six children. Reno Corriveau and his wife Susan; Susan Corriveau Michaud, Phillip Corriveau and his partner Lisa; Leo Corriveau, Betty Corriveau Pooler, and Gale Rioux and her husband Reno. James is also survived by his grandchildren, Randy, Jessica, Craig, Crystal, Angela, Andrea, Tyler, Benjamin, Zachary, Abigail and Emma. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, McKayla, Brady, Mackenzie, Chase, Ellison, Jacoby, Bethany, Lindsey, Piper, Molly, Myles, Kayla, Parker, Charlie, Marshall, Eleanor, Ellianna Mae, Hallie, James Michael and his great-great grandchild Nova. Additionally, James is survived by his siblings, Pauline Guimond and her husband June, Rena Pelletier and her husband Leonard, Eva Michaud and her husband Robert, and Jim “Jimmy” Corriveau. James is predeceased by his two sisters, Jean Pinette and her husband Orine, and Jeanette Voisine and her husband Leon, his brother Delsie “Dike” Corriveau and his parents Antoine and Irene Corriveau. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at St. Joseph Nursing Home and Hospice Care for their unwavering kindness, compassion, and devoted care of James Nelson during his final fifteen months. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am at St. Louis Church on Thursday, April 23, 2026. Relatives and friends may offer their condolences from 8:30am until 9:30am on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home in Fort Kent. Interment will be Tuesday, May 5th, 2026, at St Joseph Old Cemetery in Wallagrass.
