Obituary

Portage Lake--- Janice C. Labbe, 73, passed away unexpectedly September 17, 2020, while working her favorite job in the North Woods. She was born May 12, 1947 in Presque Isle, daughter of Clarence and Edna (Levesque) Moro, and was the beloved wife of 54 years to Bill Labbe Sr.

Janice's love of nature and the woods brought her to be a gatekeeper throughout the North Maine Woods for over 15 years. She liked to chat with the many visitors that passed through her gate and adored the many times her and her husband were able to work the gates together. She also worked many years with the Ashland One Stop, Coffin's, and Dead River. Janice was a people person through and through and her beautiful personality continues to beam through her children and grandchildren. Though fondly remembered as a dedicated gatekeeper by her many friends, she truly cherished the love and bond of her family and weekly weekend camping trips with her husband and family.

She is survived by: her husband, Bill Labbe Sr. of Portage; two children, Ann Belanger and special son-in-law, Marc, and Bill Labbe Jr. and his wife Rhonda, all of Ashland; her parents, of Ashland; four siblings, Diane Tribou and her husband Bob of Hebron, Roy Moro Sr. and his wife Sheila of Masardis, Brenda Clark of Garfield, and Sandy LaBelle and her companion Tom Raymond of Ashland; nine grandchildren, Justin, Amanda, Brandon, Ashlee, Jase, McKenna, Kelsey, Kylie & Ramsey; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Jan was predeceased by a nephew, Joey Clark, and a daughter-in-law, Julie Labbe

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated privately with her family due to COVID-19 regulations. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St./PO Box 39, Ashland.
