Obituary

Bangor & St. Francis--Jean (Dow) Gibson passed away peacefully on November 29, 2020 at the Eastside Health & Rehabilitation Center in Bangor, ME. Jean, along with her twin brother John, was born on October 16, 1935 in Allagash, ME to Harold M. and Annie (Connors) Dow.  She graduated from Hartland Academy in the class of 1954. In 1955, she studied nursing in Presque Isle, ME and became a licensed practical nurse. In 1992, Jean returned to school and reached her goal of becoming a registered nurse at Northern Maine Technical College in Presque Isle. She worked in both hospital and nursing home settings and was dedicated to her patients. In 1966 she married Norman Bilodeau and lived in Danville, VT. They had one child, Mark, who died at the age of 8 from heart disease. After a divorce, she married Albert Gibson of Allagash, ME in 1989. Jean enjoyed cooking and learned the art of donut making from her mother. She opened a bakery at the Old Custom House in St. Francis, ME. She was known as the "Donut Queen" and everyone looked forward to her donuts at our family reunions. Jean enjoyed exploring family history and was a member of the St. Francis Historical Society. She belonged to the Agape Christian Fellowship in Fort Kent, ME and leaves behind a lot of good friends at the church. She enjoyed oil painting and has left behind some special paintings for family members.

Jean leaves behind a son, Lindley Knight, and his wife Terry, of Warren, ME; sisters, Joan Randall of Ripley and Rowena Walton of Dexter; one brother, James D. Dow Sr. of Turner, ME as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, husband Albert, her son, Mark, brothers Harold, David and John and sister Henriette Mason. The family will announce plans for a celebration of her life at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home.
