Obituary

Madawaska--- Jean Paul Martin, 85, died Thursday, January 26, 2017 in Madawaska. He was born April 7, 1931 in St. David, a son of the late Paul and Alice (Guimond) Martin.

He served with the US Army during the Korean War and was a life member of the American Legion, Madawaska. Jean Paul last worked for Aroostook Mental Health, Limestone, for almost 20 years before his retirement. Previously he worked with various farms and jobs around the Madawaska area. He loved snowshoeing and took full advantage of the Madawaska trails. During his younger years, he enjoyed riding and tending to horses. Overall, he was a devoted family man and loved to see his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by: his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Grace (Gagnon) Martin of Madawaska; eleven children, Suzanne Mallett and her husband Glenn of Topsham, Pierre Martin of Casco, Micheline Boisvert and her husband Roland of Topsham, Jocelyn Marquis of Presque Isle, Mark Martin of Madawaska, Pauline Webb and husband Peter of Bridgton, Anne Wood and her husband Brian of Arizona, Ron Martin and Nika of Madawaska, Allen Martin and his wife Liz of Bangor,  Monique Pafford and her husband Kent of Arizona, and Lise Smith and her husband Mike of New Hampshire; nineteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; seven siblings, Alex Michaud of Madawaska, Muriel Jasper of Florida, Marie Cyr of Hamlin, Jackie Cyr of Van Buren, Rinnette Cyr of Madawaska, Clayton Martin of Madawaska, and Raymond Martin of Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Robert Martin, and sister, Rachel Michaud

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at St. David Catholic Church, Main St., St. David, followed by military honors. There will be no visiting hours. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 114-10th Ave., Madawaska.
