Van Buren--- Jeannine R. Viel, 81, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 11, 2022, in the loving embrace of her family. She was born November 27, 1940, in Van Buren, a daughter of the late Lucien and Anita (Soucy) Daigle and was raised in Hamlin.
Jeannine last worked as a cook at L'Acadie, Van Buren, for almost 20 years, before her retirement in 2005. She loved not only working in the kitchen to prepare delicious meals for the residents but also enjoyed chatting with them and the nurses. She also worked at the Van Buren school, IGA, and former J.J. Newberry's Department Store.
She was a devout Catholic and was a parishioner of St. Bruno-St. Remi Church, where Jeannine also assisted with the parish Mercy Meal's after funeral masses. She was an avid gardener and would spend many hours with her husband in the garden and was a talented seamstress who could mend any tear or run in her kids and grandchildren's clothes. Jeannine and her husband enjoyed taking to the trails on their ATV, but, moreover, she cherished spending time with her family or finding little ways to help and cheer up her friends.
She is survived by four daughters, Diane Vaillancourt and her husband Gary of Van Buren, Lisa Appaneal and her husband Scott of Greenville, Janice Dumond and her husband Patrick of Hampden, and Sharon Dubay and her husband John of Stuart, FL; seven siblings, Rita Boone and her husband Doug of Eustis, FL, Rudy Daigle and his wife Diane of Ocala, FL, Rinette Cyr of Bristol, CT, Joan Sirois and her husband Johnny of Nashua, NH, Arlene Madore and her husband Percy of Van Buren, John Daigle of Van Buren, and Roger Daigle of Van Buren; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Jeannine was predeceased by her husband of over 60 years, Milton Viel in 2021, two sisters, Lilly Perreault and Colette Welton, and two brothers, Robert and Claude Daigle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Main St., Van Buren. Burial will be in Grand River Cemetery, Van Buren. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren
