Obituary

Fort Kent—Jeanora Jean (Gagnon) Smart, 98, died on October 31, 2021 at Forest Hill Nursing Home in Fort Kent. She was born in Wallagrass, Maine on July 28, 1923, daughter of Adolphe and Leidy (Deprey) Gagnon. Born the 3 rd child of a family of 12 children. She worked at Cote's Jewelry store for 15 years, then J.C Penny's catalog department for 3 years until they closed. She then worked at Grants and McCory store for 15 years until her retirement at the age of 68. She volunteered at the Good Shepard thrift shop and SPRED. She made her Cursillo in 1981. She was a long time member of the St. Louis catholic church. She was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and was nominated for Mother of the Year in 2003. She was also a member of the Columbiettes, Northern Maine Medical Center Hospital guild, senior citizens club, Ladies VFW auxiliary, weekly Tuesday morning prayer meeting, and part of the prayer line. Her favorite pastime was spending time with family and playing cards, especially Canasta. She's survived by her twin daughters Linda Beveridge and her husband Jack of Glenburn, Hilda Ouellette and her husband Richard (Dick) of Frenchville; 6 grandchildren, Daniel, Vicki, Barbie, Sean, Carrie, and Stacy; 8 step-grandchildren, Mike, Lisa, Ricky, Manon (Gary's step-children), Amy, Shannon, Jay, and Jon (Linda's step-children). Along with several great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces, nephews, and godchildren; one sister, Hernelle Pelletier and her husband Donald of Fort Kent; 2 brothers, Adolphe (June) Gagnon Jr. and his deceased wife Beth of Fort Kent, Reynold Gagnon and his wife Donna of Farmington, Connecticut. She is predeceased by her parents Adolphe and Leidy (Deprey) Gagnon; her beloved husband Jack of 30 years who died at the tender age of 57; her son Gary Smart, who died too early at the age of 74 (Gary's wife Rina is still living); three brothers, Arthur Gagnon (Priscilla), Donald (Dot) Gagnon, and Stanley Gagnon (Mae Ann); three sisters, Hilda Prest (Ernest), Esther Bowman (Harold is still living), and Barbara Castleberry (Metz). A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, 10am at St. Louis church. Family and friends may offer their condolences at Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home from 8-9:45am the morning of the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to, American Lung Association, 1595 Elmwood ave. Rochester, NY 14620. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home.
