Van Buren--- Joan Cyr, 94, peacefully entered into Eternal Life November 25, 2024, at a Limestone healthcare facility. She was born April 18, 1930 in Hamlin, a daughter of the late Herbert and Atheline (Beaulieu) Smith.
Joan went to work at an early age to care for her family. She was so proud to return to school and earn her GED after she was able to raise her children. She was a gifted quilter and sewer which she learned at Van Buren Adult Education. She also enjoyed tending to her flower garden, which always had bountiful blooms throughout the spring, summer and fall. She last worked with Borderview Rehab and Living for many years as a certified nurse's aide and continued with the nursing home well into her 85th birthday. Faith was paramount in her life, and she was a devoted parishioner of St. Bruno-St. Remi Church for her entire life.
She is survived by four sons, Stephen Cyr and his wife Rebecca of Van Buren, Don Cyr and his partner Line Long of Edmundston, NB, David Cyr and Patrick Cyr, all of Van Buren; one daughter, Elaine Cyr of Freeport; three siblings, Elmer Smith of California, Irene Smith of Van Buren, and Mildred Kelley and her husband William of Pennsylvania; ten grandchildren, Elliot, Stephanie, Tom, Chris, Mandy, Darren, Misty, David, Mary, and Lynn; many great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband of 42 years, Clarence "Cappy" Cyr, a daughter, Jacalyn Power, and three siblings, Tom Smith, Betty Paradis, and infant Patrick Smith
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Church, Van Buren. Relatives and friends may greet the family Thursday morning 9 – 9:45 AM at the church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren.
