FORT KENT – Joan C. (Lamore) Dow, 82, passed away peacefully in Fort Kent on February 28, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 21, 1936 in Fort Kent, the daughter of Aime and Pheobe (Viel) Lamore. Joan graduated from Fort Kent High School and married her high school sweetheart, Drew Dow. She earned her degree from the University of Maine at Fort Kent, where she also spearheaded and led the facility's first daycare program. She was the first instructor of the Early Childhood Education program at the St. John Valley Technology Center, in addition to working as an Immigration Officer at the Fort Kent Port for many years. Later, she worked until the age of 76 at Northern Maine General as a healthcare provider. She is survived by her six children and their spouses/companions: Dawn and Don Bryla of Chicago, Doug and Lauren Dow of Pittsfield, Amy and Bert Levesque of Fort Kent, Chris and Vicky Dow of Topsham, Melanie Dow and Rita of New York City, and Smitty and Destiny Dow of Madison; her companion of many years, Rodney Madore of Eagle Lake and his family Doreen and Ransom, Kristine, and Ernie; her grandchildren Jon and Sam Dow, Nicholas and Drew Dow, Amy Bryla, Sean and Kathryn Bryla, Drew and Alex Levesque, Caleb, Kalista Madore-Blanchard and great-granddaughter, Evelyn Bryla; sister Lola Bouchard, in-laws Adrienne "Toots" Lamore, Dee Tilley, Doris Andrews, Dora Rutherford, Ralph Dow, Allan and Patricia Dow; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and good friends. She was predeceased by her husband Drew, her parents, sister Lorette, and brothers Dana and Don. A wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Joan will be missed and never forgotten. The family wishes to thank the caregivers of St. Joseph's Memory Care in Frenchville and, most recently, the doctors and nurses at Northern Maine Medical Center, particularly the amazing ICU Staff, who were extremely caring and comforting to both Joan and the family in her final days. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11am on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the St. Louis Church in Fort Kent.
