VAN BUREN---Joan S. Dufour, 83, died December 25, 2013, at Borderview Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Van Buren. Having participated in the Cursillo Movement, she is living her Fifth Day. Joan was born on July 2, 1930, in Keegan, the daughter of Hector and Deline (Michaud) Saucier. Joan will be remembered by her family for her unconditional love, her ability to make her home a warm and caring place, as a dedicated wife and for her excellent cooking. She worked as an accomplished seamstress; taught at Hope School; owned Family Affairs Ceramic Studio; and worked twenty years at Borderview Nursing Home as an activities director and social worker. After retirement, she dedicated her life to her church, St Bruno's, where she spent countless hours serving in many capacities - as a lecturer, a member of the Third Order of Mary, as a Columbiette and was active in the Cursillo Movement. Joan is survived by three sons, Kenneth Dufour and his wife, Diane, of Nashua, NH, David Dufour and his wife, Leila, of Cyr Plantation, and Duane Dufour and his wife, Judith, of Portland; one daughter, Rachel Dufour, of Caribou and son-in-law, Michael Ouellette, of Long Lake; six grandchildren, Dustin Dufour and wife, Deanna, Danielle Dufour and fiancé, Carl Legge, Gretchen Violette and husband, Brian, Shane Dufour, Chad Ouellette and wife, Heidi, Sherry Theriault and husband, Jamie; and nine great-grandchildren, Matthew and Audrey Dufour, Jayde and Elyssa Violette, Alex and Dylan Ouellette, Skylah Gendreau, Austin West and Jaxon Theriault; one brother, Clarence Saucier and his wife, Aurore, of East Hartford, CT, as well as several nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Bert, on April 19, 2011; a son, Chad; a sister, Dora Castonguay; and a brother, George Saucier. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, December 31st at 11 A.M. at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Relatives and friends may call 6:00 - 8:00 P.M., Monday, December 30th and 9:00 -10:30 A.M. Tuesday, December 31st at Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High Street, Van Buren. Interment will be next spring in the parish cemetery. Those who wish may contribute in her memory may do so to the local food pantry.
