Fort Kent--- Joan Marie Dumais, 83, peacefully passed away January 22, 2026 at a Frenchville healthcare facility. She was born April 9, 1942 in Fort Kent, a daughter of the late Eddie and Irene (Theriault) Babin.
Joan was a cook at St. Joseph Nursing Home, Frenchville, and at the former Big Daddy's Restaurant, Madawaska, for many years. She was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the VFW, the Ladies of St. Anne, and Fort Kent Senior Citizens. She was a figurehead at McDonald's during the morning rush as she met up with her friends for morning coffee. Joan enjoyed gardening, cooking and, during her younger years, dancing at local halls.
She is survived by three sons, Brian Dumais, Allen Dumais and Rickey Dumais; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; three siblings, Norman Babin, Bernette Babin, and Rodney Babin; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by a sister, Claudette Babin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at St. Louis Church, Fort Kent. There will be no visitation. Spring interment will be in the parish cemetery.
