Obituary

Madawaska-- Joel Jerome Albert, 92, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2020, at Ridgewood Estates Assisted Living Facility in Madawaska, Maine. He was born on August 10, 1928, at his family's home and was raised on the family farm in Madawaska. He was the son of Jerome D. and Regina (Theriault) Albert. Joel enlisted in the United States Army during WW2 and was assigned to Company B 72nd Signal Service Battalion in Tokyo, Japan as part of the U.S. Army of Occupation from September 30, 1946 - January 9, 1948. He then attended two years of advanced schooling at the University of Maine in Orono and Husson College, obtaining a degree in Accounting. He worked at Fraser Paper in Madawaska as an Accountant and Transportation Manager for 37 years, retiring in 1987. Joel had a deep faith and belief in duty and public service. He was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus member, a Selectman for four years, School Board member for six years, and served on the St. David Parish Council for 25 years. He was Chairman of the St. David Rectory Building Committee and chaired the new church roof and stained glass window projects. He also chaired The Building Expansion of the Madawaska Library. He was an avid reader, gardener, enjoyed walking, golfing, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, boating and loved family gatherings at home and at his camp on Long Lake. Joel is predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Therese (Dufour), and his five siblings: Rita Gwyer, Normande Langlais, Edwin Albert, Gerald Albert, Valery Albert, and son-in-law David Rogerson of Florida. He is survived by his children, Evelyn Rogerson, Susan (Steven) Small, John (Marlene) Albert, Jim (Belinda) Albert, and Cindy (Joel) Nickless. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. Joel's family would like to express heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all of the staff at Ridgewood Estates for their loving care for their father. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. David Church according to Covid-19 restrictions with a graveside service to be celebrated in the spring of 2021.
