Madawaska--- Joel B. Cyr, 80, peacefully passed away at his home on February 2, 2023. He was born January 26, 1943, in Madawaska, a son of the late Claude and Therese (Martin) Cyr.

Joel last worked many years with former Frasier Paper Mill, Madawaska, until his retirement in 2002, after 39 dedicated years of service. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Madawaska, and was a long time volunteer of the Madawaska Snowmobile and ATV Clubs, where he volunteered countless hours during suppers and events. Joel enjoyed cooking and was a skilled baker, and his grandchildren never left the home with empty bellies. He also loved mowing lawns and would constantly be spotted helping his neighbors tending to their yards.

He is survived by his beloved wife of over 55 years, Claudette (Michaud) Cyr of Madawaska; one daughter, Sharon Bossie and her husband Steve of Frenchville; eight siblings, Jean d'Arc Bosse, Juliette Lagace, Rose Belanger, Mae Rita Morin, Marcel Cyr, Carl Cyr, Roger Cyr, and Martin Cyr; three grandchildren, Nathan, Emily, and Bailey; step-grandchildren, Devon and Zoe; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Joel was predeceased by one sister Joan Levesque

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Madawaska. Relatives and friends may greet the family Wednesday morning 9-9:45 AM at the church. Spring interment will be in the parish cemetery. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 114 – 10 ^th Ave., Madawaska.
