Brown
November 23, 1941 – June 22, 2023
Eagle Lake --- John M Brown passed away on June 22, 2023, at Aroostook House of Comfort in Presque Isle, surrounded by his family and friends, after a long battle of lymphoma cancer. He was born in Augusta Maine on Nov 23, 1941, to the late Theodore "Teddy" R. Brown and late Katharine "Kitty" B. Brown. He graduated from Fort Kent Community High School in 1960 before joining the Air Force in 1961, and was stationed in England and Portland, Oregon.
After his discharge, he worked in Connecticut until returning to Eagle Lake in 1970 as a surveyor rod man with his father. He found his niche as an Insurance Agent representing several companies, including the Catholic Order of Foresters, where he loved meeting and engaging with people. In addition to the COF, he was a life member of the American Legion Post 176 and a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus. John loved the slots and the Casinos loved him, giving him free hotel rooms. In fact, at the end of March, he drove to Bangor Hollywood Casino to play and then to South Portland to visit his brother Phil. He was not one to be denied. He was also an avid Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics fan, knowing all the players and their stats. He also loved Elvis music and could listen to his albums all day and night.
John was predeceased by his parents and brother, Robert Brown.
He is survived by his brother Philip Brown and his wife Toshie of South Portland, brother Joseph Brown and his wife Jean of Eagle Lake and sister Elizabeth "Betsy" LaPlante and her husband Richard of Mapleton; and nieces Amy B Costa and her husband Aaron of East Hartford CT, Janet Brown of South Portland, Denise Lucier of Limerick and nephew Craig Brown of Old Orchard Beach.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all the staff at Northern Lights of Fort Kent, Presque Isle and especially the Aroostook House of Comfort in Presque Isle.
