Obituary

John R. Daigle, 88, passed away surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness on May 8, 2020.  He was born in Wallagrass Plantation, Maine on December 7, 1931, the fourth son of Leo and Elizabeth (Brown) Daigle.

John attended Wallagrass, Fort Kent and Presque Isle schools. He worked on the family farm until he attended the University of Maine at Orono.  This was followed by four years in the Air Force in Biloxi, Mississippi and Tacoma, Washington working as a Radar Technician and achieving the status of Staff Sargent. Upon discharge from the Air Force, he returned to his home state of Maine where he joined Daigle and Houghton focusing his efforts on truck sales. He ultimately assumed ownership of Daigle and Houghton developing an excellent reputation in the industry throughout Maine and beyond.  He was well known and appreciated for his business acumen, generosity, honesty, and compassion for his employees. He was also involved in several other businesses over the years.

He enjoyed fishing (especially his trips with friends to Alaska), hunting, boating, traveling the world and, most importantly spending time with his family.  Later in life, he treasured the time he spent with Rudy Pelletier, Reno Ouellette, Jim Roy, and Jim Daigle at the Lakeview during the summer months.

The most evident asset John possessed was his quick wit.  No matter how he was feeling, he continued to share his sense of humor with all who knew him.

He was pre-deceased by his wife, Mary Ellen (White); his grandson, Adam Daigle; his sister, Marilyn Knoy; his brothers, Bud Daigle, Bill Daigle and Richard Daigle; his step-son-in-law, Glenn Lamarr and his step-son, Phil Sirois.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannine (Sirois) Daigle; his children: Debi Miller and husband, Jack; Gail Page and husband, Phil; Gary Daigle and wife, Barbara; Doug Daigle and wife, Stephanie; Greg Daigle and wife, LouLou; Cheryl Daigle and husband, Bob; Donna Caron and husband, Jocelin; Lisa Pelletier and  husband, Ronnie; step-son, Peter Sirois and wife Nola and step-daughter, Gail Lamarr; his sisters, Teddy Jalbert and Patsy Kuhns; his brother, Pat Daigle; 24 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

John's family would like to thank all the doctors and nursing staff at Northern Maine Medical Center for their wonderful care over the years.  They would also like to thank Janice Madore and Carol Theriault for all their love and care they provided John and Jeannine over the last several years.

Unfortunately, due to the restrictions necessitated by COVID-19, a memorial service will be planned when it is safe for a large family and friends gathering.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home.
