John C.
Elliott
July 1, 1939 – June 12, 2024
St. John Plantation —John Campbell Elliott, peacefully went to be home with the Lord on June 12, 2024; his wife, Lucy at his side. He was born on July 1, 1939, in Houlton, Maine, the son of Ernest and Pauline (Campbell) Elliott.
John was a true teacher in every sense of the word. He was awarded Professor Emeritus for his teaching achievement as Professor of Mathematics at the University of Maine at Fort Kent. The majority of his teaching career took place at Ricker College and Ricker Classical Institute in Houlton, followed by the University of Maine at Fort Kent. In 1986, John earned his PhD in Mathematics Education from the University of Wisconsin — Madison. He also spent 6 months on sabbatical leave to teach and do research in Ireland which he totally enjoyed! After 43 years of teaching John retired in 2004. He is, and has been, long remembered and beloved by his students. They meant so much to him, as he was forever reminding others of heartfelt stories of them.
Besides being a teacher, John was well known as a musician. The Lord gifted him with writing Gospel music in 2001 and went on to have his music performed, recorded, and well received by many.
John is survived by his loving wife of over 25 years, Lucy (Berube)Elliott of St. John, Maine. He leaves behind many beloved family members including his children; John G. Elliott and his wife Katrina Walls of Ecuador, and Elizabeth (Elliott) Martin and her husband Bill Martin of Cross Lake, Maine. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Michael, Joshua, Amanda, Rebecca, Leah, Rachel, and Drew, and six great grandchildren: Noah, Grace, Mary, Bridget, Christopher and Henry, along with another baby on the way. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, friends and relatives as well.
Besides being predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Pauline, he is also predeceased by his first wife, Rosemary (Howe) Elliott who left this earth in 1997, four siblings, Donna Harriman, Ralph Elliott, Wilma Carpenter and infant Garth Elliott.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at First Assembly of God, 464 Frenchville Rd. Prior to the Memorial Service, there will be visiting hours from 9:00-10:30 am at Lajoie Funeral Home in Fort Kent. The burial will take place the following day in Littleton, Maine.
The family wish to thank St. Joseph's Memory Care and Crosswinds for the loving care they provided for him in the last year and half of his life. Donations may be made in John's memory to Northern Light Home Care & Hospice. Envelopes will be available at Lajoie Funeral Home.
