September 19, 1944 – July 2, 2019
Masardis--- Jon L. Lyons, 74, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at a Presque Isle hospital, with his girls by his side. He was born September 19, 1944, in Island Falls, a son of the late Rodney and Mary "Stella" (Blinn) Lyons, and graduated from Lee Academy, Class of 1962.
He enlisted with the US Army in the winter of 1962, served in Germany during peacetime, and was a lifetime member of the AmVets. Jon followed his grandfather's path and made a career out of working for the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad, starting as a clerk and working his way up to Supervisor of Trains and Customer Service, until his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed much of what the Northern Maine woods had to offer, especially hunting and fishing around St. Croix Stream, or heading to his favorite spot in the world, his camp at Griswold.
He is survived by: three daughters, Shauna Goulet and her husband Tony of Masardis, Margaret Lewin and her husband Herman of Ashland, and Kimberly Holmes and her husband Preston of Portage; one sister, Sheila Buckingham and her husband Leon of Ashland; "Papa's kids", his nine grandchildren, Amanda, Samantha, Taylor, Stephanie, Cassidy, Haleigh, Morgan, Brady & Griffin; two great granddaughters, Quinn & Aoife; a special cousin, Dana Lyons; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Sheila (Boone) Lyons in 2016, an infant daughter, Michelle Lea Lyons, and a brother, Sheldon Lyons.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2019, at Lajoie Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St./PO Box 39, Ashland, with Pastor Don Morton officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family Thursday 6-8:00 p.m. and Friday morning 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Masardis Municipal Cemetery.
