Obituary

Fort Kent—Jonah Mae (Dubey) Hafford, 86, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on May 23, 2021, at a local health care facility. She is now reunited with her loving husband of 51 years, Cecil Hafford, a Korean War Veteran, who passed away on Nov. 6, 2005. Jonah was born on May 3, 1935 in St. Francis, the daughter of the late Alcime and Dorothy (Dubay) Dubey. She married Cecil Hafford on Sept. 6, 1954 and together they raised three special sons; Cecil Jr., Carl, and Corey. She was a former resident of Allagash, where she taught school for 28 years until she retired. She also taught math and science during the Summer Remedial Program, was Neighborhood Youth Corps Director for many years, and belonged to A.R.E.A., M.E.A., M.A.R.I., A.F.S.M.E., and N.M.M.C. Guild. Jonah is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Cecil B. and Kathleen (Voisine) of Fort Kent, Carl D. and Lorena (Rodriguez) of MA, Corey A. and Vicky (Bernier) of Wallagrass; eight beautiful grandchildren, Ethan and his fiancé Catherine, Ashley and her fiancé Ben, Britt and her companion Tim, Sean and his fiancé Vicky, Brayden, Sabrina, Zachary and his fiancé Mckenzie (son Jameson), Brady and his companion Liz; her brothers, Carl and wife Elaine of MA, Rick and his wife Sue of MA; one half-brother, Gerry Dumont and his wife Pauline of CT; her sisters, Emeline Leinert of CT, Joyce Ackerson of Stockholm, Trudy Niles and her husband Brent of CT; along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Cecil, she was predeceased by her parents; two half-brothers, Roderick of RI, Oram of MA; brothers-in-law, Galen Ackerson of Stockholm, Rich Leinert of CT, Jasper Davenport of Fort Fairfield; sisters-in-law, Faye Dubey of MA, Rachel Dubey of RI; along with one very special sister-in-law, Florence (Hafford) Davenport of Fort Fairfield. A Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 2021 at the St. Louis Church in Fort Kent. Jonah will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Cecil in the Allagash Municipal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Forest Hill Manor (Activities Fund), 25 Bolduc Ave., Fort Kent, ME 04743. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home.
