Madawaska---Joseph J. Gervais, 82, passed away on May 3, 2010 at a Madawaska health care facility. He was born in Laurence, MA on June 2, 1927 the son of Ludger and Alphonsine (Gosselin) Gervais. He served his country in the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. After the war, Joe returned home and worked for Fraser Paper for thirty eight years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the American Legion Post #147 of Madawaska and he was also a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council # 2638 of Madawaska. He was well known for his love of family and dogs. Joe is survived by his loving wife of fifty five years, Laurette M. Berube of Madawaska; his son, George Gervais and his wife Susan of Summerfield, NC; his daughter, Nancy Nichols and her husband Stephen of Presque-Isle; two grandchildren, Steven Gervais and his wife Gizel of San Diego, CA and Linda Gervais of Nashville, TN; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, George Gervais. A Funeral Service will be held 10am on Thursday, May 6 at the St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Family and friends may call at Lajoie Funeral Home from 6-8pm on Wednesday and from 9am until time of service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joe's memory may be made to Hospice of Aroostook, P.O. Box 688, Caribou, ME 04736, or Central Aroostook Humane Society, 26 Cross St., Presque-Isle, ME 04769. A private internment will take place at the Caribou Veteran's Cemetery on Thursday.
