IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph "Fernald"
Jandreau
November 7, 1935 – March 1, 2023
Fort Kent--- Joseph Leonce Fernald Jandreau, aka "Fernald," 87, peacefully entered into Eternal Life and into the waiting arms of his beloved wife on March 1, 2023. He was born November 7, 1935 in St. Francis, the youngest of six children born of the late Levite and Roseanna (Jandreau) Jandreau.
Born and raised on a farm with five siblings was hard living, but the life was beautiful, and no one ever went hungry nor lacked love and affection. Fernald met the love of his life, Iris Nadeau, in 1955, and married in 1957. He enlisted in the US Army and served two years, until 1960, when he was able to return to St. John to his wife, where they built their beautiful home together in 1971. United in love and marriage for 42 beautiful years, Iris passed in 1999, following a long cancer battle.
Fernald worked in a local auto body shop for almost 20 years. He was also a dedicated member of St. John Plantation, where he served 22 years as the Assessor and eleven years as the First Assessor. Fernald was the founding member of the Historical Society of St. John, and his efforts were paramount to St. John Catholic Church being admitted as a National Historic Site.
Following his retirement, Fernald did a lot of painting and repairs to St. John Church. He also volunteered much of his time to assist the locals with running errands and driving them to doctor appointments, and he was an avid volunteer with Good Shepherd Ministries.
He is survived by a very special niece, Joy, but also a slew of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews, all whose visits and phone calls would brighten his day and his motivation to continue helping others.
Besides his parents, Fern was predeceased by his wife, Iris (Nadeau) Jandreau in 1999; five siblings, Nora Michaud, Claudette Ouellette, Adrien Jandreau, Laurine Michaud, and Andrew Jandreau, and 2 half-siblings, Richard Jandreau and Louise Jandreau.
A funeral service will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, March 17, 2023, at Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home, 14 E. Main St., Fort Kent. Relatives and friends may greet the family Friday morning 8:30 – 9:45 AM at the funeral home. Spring interment will be in St. John Cemetery.
