L. Roger
Lavertu
November 6, 1936 – November 7, 2021
Madawaska--L. Roger Lavertu, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away on November 7, 2021, just one day after reaching his 85th birthday. He was born to O'Neil and Delphine (Cote) Lavertu on November 6, 1936. He married the love of his life, Martha Chasse on June 25, 1964. Together, they raised 3 children.
He attended school in Madawaska, and upon graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force, where he proudly served as a crew chief, reaching the rank of a staff sergeant in less than 4 years. He returned to Madawaska in 1961 and began his potato farming career with his father and his brother, Gerald. He continued to farm until the age of 70 and produced maple products at his sugar camp until the age of 79. He also worked part time at the Frenchville Airport for 9 years so he could fulfill his love of aviation.
He is survived by his loving wife, Martha, married for 57 years; his children, Bruce and his son Robby and daughter Autumn; Dawn Nadeau and her sons Corey and Nathaniel; Curtis and his wife Anna, and their son Tyler; his siblings Carmen, Rella, Gerald, Edgar, Rachel, Dolores, CJ, Claudette, and Danny. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Joel, Richard, and Ronald; and one sister, Patricia; and his son in law, Mark Nadeau.
He will be remembered for his strong work ethic and his willingness to share his knowledge with others, his perseverance, his calm demeanor, and his sharp sense of humor. Everyone that met Roger, fell in love with his charismatic and magnetic personality.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Church on November 29 at 10:00 AM. His final resting place will be at the Veteran's Cemetery in Caribou, Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Lifeflight Foundation of Maine, PO Box 899, Camden, ME, 04843, or by visiting their website at www.lifeflightmaine.org .
