IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Laura
Cormier
June 16, 1931 – July 29, 2023
Madawaska/Van Buren---Laura T. Cormier was born June 16, 1931, the daughter of Maxine Moreau and Nelida (Gervais) Moreau. Laura passed away peacefully on Saturday July 29, 2023, with her loving family by her side. Named after her maternal grandmother (Laura Thibodeau) Laura was raised in Green River, New Brunswick, Canada with her twelve siblings Claude, William (Guy), Aline, twins Olio & Olia, Roger, Aldeo, Gladys, Ronald, Regina, Edmond and Lorraine. Laura left home at a young age to work in neighboring homes doing household chores, then went on to work in a clam factory in Saint Andrews with her sister Olia. She later became a nanny for various families. At one of these jobs she was hired by a young widower with 8 young children. After a short time that young man Lionel Marquis asked her to marry him and in 1954 she became Laura Marquis and stepmom to Joan, Jeanine, Gerald, Priscilla, Pat, Rose Marie, Fernande and Leola, then their daughter, Brenda was born. She resided with her new family in Keegan, Maine. Laura loved gardening, cooking, music, especially playing the piano, dancing and doing LOTS of weekly baking for her large family, visitors and various organizations she belonged to. She loved animals and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and continued to play until she was too ill to do so in the most recent weeks. Another of her passions was the family time she and Lionel spent at their cottage and their many boat rides on Long Lake in a boat Lionel built. She cherished all the beautiful memories the family had made until his passing in 1968. Laura remarried years later to Joseph (Pat) Cormier and took on the role once again of stepmom to Patricia, Larry and Lisa. They resided in Van Buren before moving to various locations and for approximately 6 years called Alaska home. Wherever Laura was her personality always allowed her to meet and make new friends. While in Alaska she rekindled her passion of being a nanny and cared for several children, all of whom touched her heart. Since becoming a widow for a second time, Laura settled in Madawaska and resided there until her passing. Laura is survived by her loving daughters Priscilla Marquis, Rose Marie Clavette, Ann Zurell, Brenda Hollis and the beloved families of all her 9 Marquis children including many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her 3 step children Patricia Cormier, Larry Cormier, Lisa Tranbarger and their families. In addition, Laura is survived by her sister Lorraine Moreau, several special son-in-laws, daughter-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
