Wallagrass--- Laura Saucier, 104, peacefully entered into Eternal Life and into the waiting arms of her late husband and son on October 9, 2026, just following her birthday. She was born October 5, 1922, in Caribou, a daughter of the late Francis and Sophie (Fournier) Saucier.
Laura was a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Ladies of St. Anne in Eagle Lake and Wallagrass, the Fort Kent and Eagle Lake Senior Citizens, Eagle Lake’s Rod and Gun Club, the Columbiettes of Fort Kent, and a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church of St. John Vianny Parish, where she was also a Eucharistic Minister. Laura was crowned Mother of the Year by the Ladies of St. Anne of Eagle Lake.
She worked many jobs throughout her long life and always made sure her family was provided for. Laura worked in the kitchen at former Loring Air Force Base, she assisted her husband with a taxi service in Fort Fairfield, worked in the mill in Eagle Lake, and did kitchen duties in the lumber camps while her husband was working as a sawyer during over-100 years of life. She and her family would also head to Fort Fairfield every fall to work potato harvest with area farmers. Her hands were rarely idle and always found a bit of time to help her elderly neighbors with their own cleaning and cooking. During her early years, Laura worked with upper Eagle Lake’s Michaud’s Camps and ingrained a strong work ethic which she passed along to her children and grandchildren. She adored visits from her grandchildren and could spend hours reminiscing with them about their rich history of family, instilling the value of life and the treasures of the outdoors.
Laura loved hunting and fishing and was often seen going down Route 11 with her husband on their ATVs while bird hunting. She was also an avid snowmobiler and earned the title “Designated Trail Breaker.” She won coveted moose permits three times; at age 75, 80, and 90 years young--- and she filled every tag. Laura enjoyed BINGO, reading, crochet, and tending to her vegetable garden, but none of her hobbies interrupted her Boston Red Sox games. She also attended the Democratic caucus in Augusta with Norman Fournier the last several years.
She is survived by two daughters, Norma Soucy and her husband Roger of Eagle Lake and Charlene Labbe and her husband Dennis of Nobleboro; 44 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Laura was predeceased by her beloved husband of 42 years, Thomas Saucier Sr. in 1984; a son, Tom Saucier Jr. in 2006; a grandson, Micheal Soucy in 2024; a special friend, Leo Walker in 2007; four brothers, Albert, Alderick, Steven and Patrick Saucier; four sisters, Yvonne Doustou, Agnes Bishop, Rose Labbe and Laurette Gagnon; and a stepsister, Ana Dufour.
“Mom, you were such a beloved wife, loving mother, doting memere, grand memere, dedicated tant and friend. You were there for each and every one of us, especially during our most crucial times. Rest easy Mom; you put God into our hearts and great deeds into our hands. Well done, good and faithful servant.”
