Grand Isle--- Laurette Doucette, 95, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2023, at Forest Hill Manor in Fort Kent, Maine. She was born in Lille on March 19, 1928, the daughter of Thaddee A. and Annie (Bouchard) Lausier.
On June 30, 1947, she married Reid Doucette in Grand Isle where they settled and raised their family. Laurette had multiple talents and performed various jobs throughout her vast working career, including supervisor at Jade East. She then acquired an AA degree in education from UMFK and went on to work as a teacher's aide.
Laurette was a Communicant of St. Gerard's Parish in Grand Isle and enjoyed being a part of the church choir. She loved to garden, knit, and crochet. She especially loved making quilts for everyone. Her quilts can be seen at the Acadian Archives at the UMFK and are also on display at the Greater Grand Isle Historical Society. In 1993, Laurette was awarded "Mother of the Year" by the Dame de Sainte-Anne of Grand Isle.
She is survived by her children, Robert (Ginette) of Eddington, Lucille Theriault (Nelson) of Frenchville, Norman (Diane deceased) of Madawaska, George (Bev) of South Portland, Elmer (Peggy) of Rockport; brothers, Patrick Lausier of South Windsor, Connecticut; Raymond Lausier of Windsor Locks; and James Lausier of Clear Brook, Virginia. She'll also be fondly remembered by her grandchildren: Andy, Keith, Jason, Sherry, Jaime, Matthew, Casey, Corey, Monica, and Nick; great grandchildren, Dustin, Lenny, Jasmine, Alexandria, Stella, Jackson and Alexander; and great-great grandchildren, Freya and Athena.
Laurette was predeceased by her husband, Reid, who passed away in 1999. In addition, she was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph, Maurice, Fernand, and George Lausier, and sisters, Bertha St. Jean, Jean Deschaine, Constance Cyr, Clemence Lavoie and Edmay Daigle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 18, 2023, at St. Gerard Church, Main St., Grand Isle. Interment will be in the parish cemetery following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Laurette's memory to Forest Hill Bingo Fund, 25 Bolduc Ave., Fort Kent, ME 04743. Arrangements entrusted to Lajoie Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 114 – 10th Ave., Madawaska.
