Obituary

Caribou--- Lawrence "Larry" Violette, 77, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 9, 2020, at his home, following a short illness. He was born January 7, 1943 in Van Buren, a son of the late Donat and Jean (Doucette) Violette. He graduated from Van Buren schools, graduated from former Fort Kent Teacher's College in 1966, and was inducted into the University of Maine-Fort Kent Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.

Larry worked as a history and social studies teacher at Caribou Middle School over 25 years. He loved interacting with his students during class and his many students still reminisce about his years teaching. He was a former member of the Caribou Lion's Club. Larry enjoyed tinkering for hours in his shop on crafts and woodworking projects. He also enjoyed touring around Caribou and fishing and hunting in his favorite spots or tending to his vegetable and flower gardens.

He is survived by: two sons, Eric Violette and his wife Deidra of Caribou and Kurt Violette and his long-time companion Laura Smith of Connor; five grandchildren, Danielle, Amanda, Ashley, Jace, and Sadielee; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Larry was predeceased by his wife, Louis (Dumais) Violette in 2007, a sister, Carolyn Ouellette, and a brother, Cary Violette.

A graveside service will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, July 17, 2020, at St. Bruno Cemetery, Main Street, Van Buren, where he will be interred with his loving wife. Please follow facemask and social distancing requirements. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren.
