Obituary

FREEPORT & VAN BUREN--- Leah Marie Nadeau, 84, died peacefully Sept. 30, 2013. She was born Dec. 18, 1928 in Van Buren, the second of Wallace and Imelda Nadeau's three daughters. Leah graduated from Sacred Heart High School and Aroostook State Normal School in Presque Isle, after which she taught elementary school in Presque Isle for several years. Leah was blessed with many talents. She played piano and sang on the radio and in local bands. She wrote poetry; several of her poems were published. Leah's outgoing personality made her the life of the party. She enjoyed literature of all kinds and loved the songs of many Broadway musicals, especially "Carousel". After her marriage to Maynard Munroe and the birth of her children, her most important priority would always remain her family. She was a devoted mother to her four children. Some of her happiest days were with her young family at Maple Grove Farm in Aroostook County. They were also perhaps her saddest days due to a devastating illness that took her away from her family repeatedly during the years on the farm. Leah loved family celebrations; above all she loved Christmas. She was a wonderful cook. She enjoyed preparing special meals and fabulous birthday cakes for family and friends. She enthusiastically welcomed all of her children's friends to the farm and treated them like family. Leah lived for many years in Lincoln, Maine, and became part of the family at Vernon and Debbie Taylor's Lakeview Terrace Boarding Home. Leah's family expresses their gratitude to the Lakeview staff for their loving care; also to all of the wonderful people who helped care for her over many decades; and special gratitude to the Hawthorne House and hospice workers who helped us all with her final days. Leah is survived by her children and their families; Marcia Munroe McCullough of Tampa, FL ; Bonnie Sammons and husband Mitchell of Belgrade, ME; Mark Munroe and wife Judi of Greenville, WI; Glen Munroe of Geneva, Switzerland. Leah also is survived by her 2 sisters Irene Roy of Parsonsfield, ME and Walline Blair of Naples, FL. ; 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A remembrance service will be held graveside on Thursday, Oct, 10, at 12:00 noon, at St. Bruno Cemetery, Van Buren.
