Hamlin & Van Buren--- Leo J. Cormier, 79, passed away unexpectedly Monday, December 7, 2020. He was born September 16, 1941 in Van Buren, a son of the late Leo Dennis and Aline (Martin) Cormier. He graduated from Van Buren Boys' High in 1961 and the former Hanson's Barber School, Lewiston, in 1962.
Leo was the beloved Van Buren barber since 1972. His Main Street shop was a common stop for many of the area residents for a trim or a good-natured chat and ribbing. Previously he worked at Loring Air Force Base for several years, the Immigration Service for several years and cut hair for Borderview residents for many years. A long-time parishioner of St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, he was a singer in the parish choir, was a Fourth Degree member of the Van Buren Knights of Columbus, and former Deputy Grand Knight.
He is survived by: his loving wife of over 55 years, Linda (Ouellette) Cormier of Hamlin; one daughter, Debbie Cormier and her companion Armand Edwards of Scarborough; and many, many townsfolk, friends and acquaintances spread across the globe whom loved to stop into his barber shop.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by an infant, twin sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Church, Main St., Van Buren. Relatives and friends may greet the family Saturday morning 10-10:45 AM at the church. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren, ME 04785.
