Obituary

Van Buren--- Leo James Dubay, 82, peacefully entered into rest May 15, 2024, following a short bout of declining health. He was born March 31, 1942, in Van Buren, a son of the late Martin and Agnes (Dionne) Dubay.

Jim worked as a young man timber harvesting in the woods with his father. Later, he worked for every farmer within Van Buren, Hamlin and Cyr Plantation for many years, and he prided himself for being the "á pic pi á pel," or the guy that shovels the rotten potatoes. He last worked for former Kevlar, Van Buren, until his retirement in 2007. Jim adored his many nieces and nephews and cherished rocking them to sleep. He was his family's beloved "Uncle Jim," and loved to attend his nieces' and nephews' many family gatherings and BBQs. He is lovingly remembered riding his four-wheeler throughout the town and trails.

He is survived by six siblings, Rita Facchini of Massachusetts, Clarence Dubay and his wife Rose, Cecile Martin, all of Connecticut, Jeannette Noe of New Jersey, Fidele Dubay and his wife Nell of Connecticut, and Philip Dubay of Van Buren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins spread near and far.

Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by four siblings, Roland and Roger Dubay, Yvette Nadeau, and Beatrice Rossignol.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Church, Main Street, Van Buren. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's name may be made to: Knights of Columbus Parish Needs Fund, 284 Main St., Van Buren, ME 04785. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren.
