Obituary

FRENCHVILLE—Leo Gerald "Duff" Dufour, 90, passed away peacefully at an assisted living facility in Madawaska, Maine.  He was born on June 25, 1930 to the late Patrick J. Dufour and Cecile (Collin) Dufour and was a 1949 graduate of Madawaska High School.

Duff enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, was a proud veteran, and was a longtime member of the American Legion, Post 147, Madawaska.  Afterwards, he settled in Bridgeport, CT with his wife, started his family and , after several years, he and his family returned to the St. John Valley.  Duff was employed by Fraser Paper for 31 years in the Bond Department as a paper tester/inspector.

Duff had many interests in life including fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, golfing, playing softball, dancing, and singing in the St. Thomas Aquinas choir. Leo was an all-around sports fan but loved his Boston Bruins the most. In his later years he had a great fondness for all wildlife and especially took great pleasure in feeding his back yard birds. He loved to watch sunsets and looked forward to his daily ritual of saying a prayer as he watched the sun go down, wherever he happened to be at that moment.  Leo was quite a character and touched many hearts over the years. He loved his family very much and will be missed by many.

Leo is survived by: four sons, Gary and his wife Martha of Tucson, Arizona, Gregory of Houston, Texas and St. Agatha, John of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, and Matthew and his wife Rebecca of Saco, Maine; five grandchildren, Holly, Austin, Erik, Addison, and Olivia; three great grandchildren, Cosette, Maelys, and Leo; a sister, Patricia Ahlmark of Jacksonville, North Carolina; a brother, Roger Dufour and his wife Rejeanne of Madawaska, Maine; two brothers-in-law, Paul Baker and Alan Crabtree; two sisters-in-law, Angela Raymond and Nicole Dufour; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, long time neighbors, and friends near and far.

In addition to his parents, Leo was predeceased by his devoted wife of 55 years, Rose (Michaud), a brother, Robert, a sister, Carol, and a daughter-in-law, Karen.

The family would like to thank the staff at Ridgewood Estates for their devoted care and compassion for Mr. Leo.  He is now at peace with his wife, Rose.
