Obituary

Portage Lake--- Leo Cormier, 90, died peacefully on February 23, 2017. He was born November 10, 1926, the son of late John J. and Edith Cormier. He was educated in Portage Lake schools, the Convent in St. Agatha and graduated from John Baptist, Bangor.
He enlisted in the Air Force during Berlin Airlift Operations and was immediately sent to Wiesbaden, Germany as a communications specialist in the Strategic Air Command Division. Leo returned from his overseas tour in 1953 to marry Beatrice Levesque of Portage Lake. He served a total of 23 years in the Air Force. In 1968 Leo retired from the Air Force and was offered a position as Town Manager of Portage Lake. He returned home with his family and resided in the Cormier family home where he was thrilled to be back in his home town of Portage Lake. Leo's top priority in his life was always his family and cherished time spent with them by the lake.
Leo leaves behind: his beautiful wife of 64 years, Beatrice Levesque Cormier of Portage; six children, Gerald Cormier and wife Janice Cyr of Portage Lake, Barbara Pitcairn of Portage Lake, Lisa Levasseur and husband Bill of Sinclair, Norman Cormier and wife Tracy Snow Cormier of Portage Lake, Mark Cormier and  wife Patty Labbe Cormier of Brunswick, and Stephen Cormier and wife Kimberly Cormier of Leominster, MA; two siblings, Robert Cormier and his wife Alice of Presque Isle and Jean Petrovcin and her husband Steven of St. Petersburg, FL; thirteen grandchildren, Chelsea & Dylan, Jennifer, Jaclyn & Jonni, Arika & Sasha, Ray & Amber, and Julie, Stevie Rae & Jesse;  ten great grandchildren, Allie, Steve, Roman & Beatrice, John & Fitz, Leo & West, and Logan & Jamison; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Portage Lake. Relatives and friends may greet the family Sunday 6-8:00 PM and Monday morning 9-10:45 AM at the church. Spring interment will be in Portage Lake Municipal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Leo's name may be made to: Eagle Lake Mercy Home, c/o Denise Raymond, PO Box 310, Eagle Lake, ME 04739. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St./PO Box 39, Ashland.
