IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leo "June"
Pelletier
June 15, 1939 – May 19, 2024
Fort Kent---Leo F. "June" Pelletier, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at the age of 84. He was born on his family's farm in Daigle, Maine, son of the late Leo K. and Pauline (Pelletier) Pelletier. June was raised at the family homestead in Daigle where he and his beloved wife of 64 years, Rita (Gagnon), also raised their 5 children: Mark (Fleda), Denise (Adam) Slazas, Bill, Laura (Chris) Davis, and Jill (Stacey) Kelly. The couple were blessed with 12 grandchildren: John and Jacob Kelly; Lily and Christian Slazas; Aimee, Michelle, and Nicole Pelletier; Zachary, Emma, and Julianna Davis; and Gretchen and Grace Pelletier. Papa June delighted in his 4 great-grandchildren. Having graduated from Fort Kent Community High School, June went off to National Guard basic training. He returned home to marry Rita in 1960. Leo farmed before turning to logging then operated a successful logging-trucking business until his retirement in 2004. After retirement, June enjoyed motorcycling and snowmobiling, especially with his 2 older brothers. June had great interest in ancestry, local history, and travel; and he was a wonderful dancer and storyteller. June was parishioner of Holy Family Church until its closure and then a parishioner of St. John Vianney parish. June was a longtime, 4th degree Knight of Columbus. Most of all, June will be remembered for his gentle spirit, wonderful sense of humor, open-hearted generosity, and Christ-like love of everyone he met. June leaves behind his brother Renaud and wife Irma, sister Rena Michaud, brother James and wife Rena, sister Joan Robertson, and sister Louise Platt. He is predeceased by his dear grandchild Gretchen Pelletier and his parents Leo and Pauline Pelletier. Relatives and friends may offer their condolences on Thursday, May 23rd from 1pm to 2:30pm at Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home in Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for him on Friday, May 24 at 3 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Fort Kent. Interment at Holy Family Cemetery in Daigle and reception at New Canada Community Center will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Canada Community Center, the Northern Maine Medical Center, Swing Unit; or to the Fort Kent Historic Society.
