Obituary

Madawaska---Leola Daigle, 84, passed away on November 8, 2020 at a Fort Kent health care facility.  She was born in Madawaska on July 28, 1936, the youngest daughter of the late Maxime and Marie Rose (Sirois) Bouchard.  She worked in the offices of Fraser Paper for seven years, where she met her future husband, Rudolph.  She left to raise their growing family after the birth of her second child and later, returned to work at the Fraser Credit Union for twenty years.  Though she herself did not have the opportunity to attend college, she enjoyed helping students with financing as the Student Loan Officer for many of those years.  Outside of family activities, Rudy and Lee enjoyed two special activities as a couple – square dancing and motorcycle riding.  They did the do si do with the Fort Kent Squares in the 1970s and had made many new friends doing so.  Riding motorcycle spanned many more years and they often did so with Rudy's twin brother and his wife, visiting many sights around New Brunswick and northern Maine.   Leola also looked forward to annual family vacations in Hampton Beach.  She never hesitated to turn a request for help with childcare into a reason for visiting the grandchildren, all of whom lived a good distance from Madawaska.  Leola was a devout Catholic and treasured the religious pilgrimage trips she made to Medjugorje and to Mexico.  She also served the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in many different capacities throughout the years.  She became a member of the Parish Council for five years and the choir for many years.    She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, and a Lady of St. Anne, serving as President for 2008-2012.   Leola is survived by her husband of sixty one years, Rudy Daigle of Madawaska; one daughter, Denise Banach and her husband David of Shrewsbury, MA; three sons, Mark Daigle and his wife Diane of Manchester, ME, Ross Daigle and Polly Hernandez of Madawaska, Steve Daigle and his wife Amy of Killington, VT; seven dearly loved grandchildren, Laurel and Jill Banach, Sean and Alec Daigle, Mike Hernandez, Allison and Samantha Daigle; one brother, Herman Bouchard of Corpus Christie, TX; several nieces and nephews.  Leola was predeceased by two siblings, Marie Ange Comeau and Chanel Bouchard.

Leola bravely faced a diagnosis of macular degeneration more than a dozen years ago and lived with it with diminishing sight without complaint.  She spent the last year of her life at High View Manor in Madawaska.  It was a blessing that she was able to join her older sister there, until Marie Ange's passing in March this year.  The family wishes to thank the capable hands of the staff at High View and their help in connecting our many Facebook Portal calls to our mother during this pandemic.  Our family will be forever grateful for their genuine care for her health and well-being.  Contributions may be made to the High View Activity Fund, 517 Riverview St., Madawaska, ME 04756/  Alternatively, a tribute donation may be made to Cure Alzheimer's Fund, 34 Washington St, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481 or via this link: https://curealz.org/giving/ways-to-donate/ . Because of the current pandemic, funeral services will be private.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie Funeral Home.
