IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leona "Kit"
Roy
January 6, 1931 – November 17, 2023
Grand Isle – Leona "Kit" Roy, age 92, passed away on November 17, 2023. She was born in Madawaska on January 6, 1931, daughter of the late Ernest and Esther (Dionne) Albert. She started her working career at a young age at Fraser Paper Mill in Madawaska and ended up working in the school system in Grand Isle and Van Buren for many years as a teacher's aide and assistant librarian. She enjoyed working with children of all ages, and "Miss Roy" was very well liked among her peers, as well as the children. One of her greatest assets was connecting with children. She loved kids, and they responded likewise. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to many places, including Hawaii, Bermuda, the Caribbeans, Nashville, visiting her son and family in Southern Maine and her daughter and family in Boston every summer. She was an active member of the Daughters of Isabella and loved to bake and participate in providing "Mercy Meals" to local families who had lost a loved one. She was also an active member of the Ladies of St. Anne for many years. Her interests included spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren; baking; sewing; and reading. She also loved to play cards and had a regular group that met on a weekly basis. Being social and going out was very important to her well-being. It kept her young! She was predeceased by her husband, Herman E. Roy, and her son, Daniel Roy. She is survived by three of her children: Herman Roy, Jr. and his wife Joyce of Grand Isle; daughter-in-law Dorothy of Grand Isle; Linda Dionne and her husband Jim of Wrentham, MA; Paul Roy and his wife Carmen of Arundel, Maine; nine grandchildren: Keith, Michelle, Monique, Greg, Stacy, Alyssa, Kristen, Matthew, Kaitlynn; 12 great-grandchildren: Kayla, Charlotte, Claire, Brianna, Brandon, Martina, Hunter, Julia, Jacqueline, Anna, Nathan, and Owen; and seven siblings; Anne Chaisson, Jean-Paul, Louise Grondin, Louis, Ernest Jr., Claudette Levesque, and James. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the St. Gerard Church in Grand Isle, followed by a Celebration of Life gathering at the Grand Isle Community Center. A private burial will be held at St. Gerard Cemetery, Grand Isle, Maine. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Kit's memory may be made to The Ridgewood Activity Fund, 480 Ridgeview Avenue, Madawaska, ME 04756.
