IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leonard H.
Kelly
July 23, 1938 – November 11, 2022
Allagash--- Mr. Leonard H. Kelly, 84, passed away after a long battle with dementia on November 11th, 2022 at Forest Hill Nursing Home in Fort Kent, ME. He was born and raised in Allagash, ME, spending most of his life there. Leonard was drafted to the United States Army in 1962 and stationed at United States Army Garrison Baumholder in Germany. After his two-year service, Leonard spent four years in the United States Army Reserve, then served honorably in the United States Army Guard from 1976-1995. When Leonard returned home from active-duty service, he met the love of his life, Mona, and had three beautiful daughters.
Leonard will always be remembered for his hard work, quick wit, and unwavering dedication to his family. He was as quick to offer a joke as he was to offer a helping hand. Leonard loved a lot of things in life: nature, reading, his wife's cooking, but there was nothing he loved more than his family. You could often find Leonard accompanying his kids and grandkids to the river for a swim, enjoying a meal with his siblings, or lovingly teasing his wife, who he affectionately called "Pooh". Although soft-spoken, Leonard was always ready to share his knowledge gathered over a lifetime of experiences and through a deep love of learning. His kind and gentle nature will be missed by all that knew him.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Mona, and their three daughters: Kim Reeves, Cheryl Theriault, and Terry Wise; his sister-in-law Connie Jackson who he helped raise, his three grandchildren: Corey Kelly, Toni Aston, and Mike Reeves; his three great grandchildren: Emma Kelly, Kaden Kelly, and Charlie Aston; special niece and nephew Billie-Jo Lovley and Jessie Jackson and special great niece and nephew Avery Lovley and Jackson Lovley and his siblings: Douglas Kelly, Helen McBreairty, Carolyn Gardner, Beulah Gardner, Kathy Jackson and Sharon Cusack. He rests peacefully with his parents, Guy and Theresa Kelly; his sister Barbara McBreairty; and his brother Edward Kelly.
The family thanks the staff at Forest Hill Nursing Home in Fort Kent for their dedication to caring for Leonard in his final years.
A graveside service will be held at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery on Monday, November 21 st , 2022 at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan ave Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home.
