Grand Isle--- Lionel "Pit" Dionne, 88, peacefully entered into rest Sunday, February 26, 2023, at Highview Manor, Madawaska. He was born August 25, 1934, in Grand Isle, a son of the late L. Philippe and Sophie (Cyr) Dionne Sr. Pit enlisted with the US Army during the Korean Conflict and served stateside. Following his time in the service, he returned to his beloved hometown of Grand Isle. Pit farmed potatoes for over 25 years. Later he worked at Fraser Paper for 10 years, until his retirement in 1997. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Gerard Church, Grand Isle, and was a life member of the American Legion, Post #149, Madawaska, the Fort Kent DAV, and was a Fourth Degree member of the Grand Isle Knights of Columbus. Pit enjoyed serving his community on the Grand Isle Volunteer Fire Department and served several years on the Town's committee. In his free time, Pit loved to trim and tend to the trees on his sons' tree farms. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Lucille (Cyr) Dionne of Grand Isle; five children, Louise Dionne of Otter Creek, Ron Dionne and his wife Jen of Grand Isle, Denise Emple and her husband Rob of Falmouth, Jim Dionne of St. David, and Michelle Ouellette and her husband Chad of Saco; seven grandchildren, Emma, Alec, Andrew, Sophie, Charlie, Curtis, and Brycen; one great granddaughter, Hadley; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Pit was predeceased by one daughter, Donna Hubbard in 2012, and two siblings, Anne Cyr, and L. Philippe Dionne Jr. Pit's family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to High View Rehab & Nursing Center for their dedicated and compassionate care of Pit during his stay. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at St. Gerard Catholic Church, Grand Isle. Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family Friday evening 6PM – 8:00 PM at Lajoie Funeral Home, 114 – 10 th Ave., Madawaska. Spring burial will be in St. Gerard Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pit's name may be made to: Grand Isle Fire Department, PO Box 197, Grand Isle, ME 04746 or to the Grand Isle Knights of Columbus, PO Box 174, Grand Isle, ME 04746.
