Madawaska--- Lloyd J. Tardif, 81, died peacefully on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at a Bangor hospital following a short illness. He was born in October 11, 1932 in Madawaska, a son of the late Luke and Catherine (Martin) Tardif. He worked with Fraser Papers for over 39 years until his retirement in 1995. He was active in the community, having served 2 terms as town selectman and several years on the board of the Madawaska Water District. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 2638 and the Fourth Degree Assembly where he was a past Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator, Financial Secretary, and Treasurer. Lloyd also served on the Maine State Board of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and was President of the local affiliate, NAMI-St. John Valley, for many years and on various committees. He is survived by: his wife of 61 years, Ruth (Paulsen) Tardif of Madawaska; two sons, Paul Tardif of Madawaska and Mark Tardif of Frenchville; two sisters, Roberta Kerwin and her husband Jim of California and Constance Koutalidas of Maryland; three grandsons, Nicholas, Mathew and Billie; two granddaughters, Reiley and Megan; three great grandchildren, Samuel, Vincent, and Marilyn; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Lloyd is predeceased by: three brothers, Valere, John and Oram "Joe" Tardif; and a sister, Patricia Tardif. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Madawaska, with Father Kent Ouellette officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family Thursday morning, 8:30-9:30 AM, at Lajoie Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 114-10th Ave., Madawaska. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
