Fort Kent, Maine – Lolita Plourde Collins passed away on October 23, 2026 at the age of 86. Born on December 15, 1939, in Fort Kent, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Levite and Isabelle Plourde.
Lolita graduated from Fort Kent High School with the Class of 1958. Shortly after, she met the love of her life, Michael Moses Collins, beginning a devoted partnership and marriage that spanned 66 years. As Michael’s career took them to many different places throughout the United States, Lolita embraced every new community, forging lifelong friendships with people around the world while always keeping her St. John Valley roots close to heart.
She had a lifelong love for numbers and words, which paved the way for a rich and fulfilling career and followed her husband throughout his career with moves to Kentucky and Texas during his military service and then Kane and Greensburg, Pennsylvania, Maryville, Tennessee, Ashland, Portage Lake, Eagle Lake and Fort Kent, Maine.
She began her path as a bank teller at Northern National Bank and then worked as a bookkeeper for Jimmy Martin Logging in Eagle Lake. She soon discovered a natural talent for tax law, embarking on a career as an accomplished tax preparer. After working with H&R Block, she joined Plourde, Morneault & Dubay in Fort Kent, where she dedicated 26 years to serving her clients until April 2026. Lolita often joked about retiring, but tax preparation was her personal Sudoku puzzle—a passion and challenge she simply couldn't give up.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Family was the most important part of her life. Never one to sit back or relax, Lolita led by example and instilled in her family the core values of courage, hard work, and dedication. She and Mike enjoyed hosting family gatherings at the lake and having the grandchildren spend their vacations at “Grandma and Mike’s summer camp.”
Reading was her favorite pastime, taking pleasure lending her books to others. While she loved playing golf, snowmobiling, and canoeing, she enjoyed all sports. She drafted and competed with a competitive fantasy football team with her family and friends for more than 30 years. She took special pride in her kitchen and enjoyed sharing her baking with family and friends. Her peanut butter balls, brownies and whoopie pies were always in great demand. She loved animals just as fiercely as she loved her family, leaving behind her two Siamese Maine Coon cats, Chico and Paco, who utterly adored her.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Michael Moses Collins; son Scott of Fort Kent, son Todd and his wife Monica of Palmyra VA, son Kurt of Fort Kent, son Shawn and his wife Monica of Temple NH; grandchildren Owen, Rya and Zachary of Temple NH; step granddaughter Emily Foley of Cork Ireland; sister Rella Jean Dubois of Fort Kent; sister Patricia Hickey and husband Gary of East Hartford CT; brother Levite Plourde Jr. and his wife Sandra of Fort Kent and many nieces and nephews
She was predeceased by her parents Levite and Isabelle Plourde; brother Patrick Plourde and wife Eva; brother Julian; brother Armand Plourde and his wife Joan; brother Phillip; sister Bernadette Caron and her husband Al; sister Theresa Voisine and her husband Conrad; sister Bernice Corriveau; sister Julie Belanger; sister Marie Whalen; brother Claude Plourde and wife Patricia.
